Flood Relief in Quang Tri – November 10th and 11th, 2011

During the monsoon season, which begins around October and ends around February, Central Vietnam is susceptible to extreme flooding. The most vulnerable families are oftentimes very poor and live in rural, undeveloped areas. Using grant money from AmeriCares, Giao Diem Humantarian Foundation (GDHF) collaborated with local leaders in Vietnam, in the provinces of Hue and Quang Tri, to distribute flood relief supplies to families most affected. In-need families were determined by specific standards drafted by local leaders, and each family received a flood relief package of:

  • 10 kg bag of white rice
  • 1 box of thirty packets of packaged, instant noodles
  • 1 kg bag of granulated sugar

In Quang Tri, 200 families received flood relief packages per flood relief distribution sites; there were a total of three distribution sites planned over the course of November 10th and 11th 2011. In total, 600 families received flood relief packages in Quang Tri in November 2011, which was achieved primarily because of the cooperation and organization of local leaders.
