Giao-Diem's nutritional supplement pilot project will be launched this coming August in Huyen Phu Loc, Thua Thien.

In April 2004, a preliminary nutritional survey of 300 students, age 3-7, from Classrooms of Compassion showed about half of the students surveyed are malnourished based on the World Health Organization's (WHO’s) standard.

Our project plans to use home made soy milk fortified with peanut oil produced locally by teacher aides for the Classroom of Compassion and consumed daily. Nutrition courses and proper food handling seminars will be provided to the teachers and staff before the project is started.

Participating children will also be given a complete physical exam, a screening for anemia and will be treated for parasites and other ailments before starting the nutritional supplement program. Their height and weight will be measured quarterly. The children will also receive daily multivitamin with minerals while classes are in session.

Our goal is to expand this healthy and affordable supplement program to other Classrooms of Compassion in disadvantaged areas. .

The cost of this program for each child is $7 a month.  The cost per child for the 12mos is $84. We ask for your support of this project. For further details, please contact Thuy Nguyen, MD at 949-262-5735, or email us at: info@giaodiemhumanitarian.org
